Music Elitist’s Think Different

I watched an interesting show the other night on Charter Cable Television about a music elitist, and I was utterly fascinated with the story. According to this show, the mind of a music elitist is wired a little differently from most peoples’.  That’s because they seem to have an unusual preference for categorizing and classifying music with an exclusionary tendency towards types of music they deem to be inferior, for whatever reasons.  Rather than mere appreciation for the types of music they approve of, there is also a great disapproval at work, albeit subconsciously, and it is aimed at music that is believed to be antithetic to the preferred music.  If that sounds confusing, let’s take a look at some of the more complicated traits of a music elitist.

Davy Jones, Rest In Peace

On Wednesday, the lead sing for the television band The Monkees, Davy Jones passed away from a heart attack in Florida.  He was only 66 years old.

Before the television show “The Monkees” came along Davy Jones was already singing and dancing on Broadway.  When the audition for the lead singer of the fictional television band came along, Jones had to go up against 500 other men trying for the part.  Alas, he was officially cast as the lead for The Monkees and though the show only aired for two years, after it went off air The Monkees were a legitimate band.

Created to be the United States’ version of the Beatles, The Monkees gained much popularity and Davy Jones soared to high heights by becoming quite the heartthrob.

Sweet Home Venues

Listening to music is pretty much one of the greatest things ever.  I listen to it throughout the day nonstop.  Music can help to influence your mood.  It can also be a reflection of how you might be feeling.  It can help you pass the time more quickly, and it can just give you something to do when you are bored.  Another great use for music is obviously for entertainment.  I mean why else would people pay for music or to go to concerts?  It is not just to waste money, but to enjoy and listen to what they love.

It would only make sense then that if you were going to have a party you would want the music to be the main experience.  You would not want to have just some lame speakers trying to blare out music and it would sound crappy.  Or some people will use their television’s radio station to listen to music.  I know Washington tv has some sweet music channels, but if you do not have surround sound that is a serious no-go.

Come on people you need to set up your home music venue right!  Take a look at the infographic below that shows how you should set up your place to get your rocking tunes ready to go.

Major Music Fails

This week the Billboard 200 Chart was released and Ms. “I eat more than anyone and I’m not too thin” Lee Ann Rimes and Jason Derulo’s new albums did not fare so well on the list.  Derulo’s Future History came in at the twenty nine spot, and Rimes’ Lady & Gentlemen was at thirty two on the chart.

Prince Poppycock Returns

A few weeks ago, American television viewers were delighted at the return of the flamboyant and outrageous Prince Poppycock to talent competition show America’s Got Talent.  In true Poppycock style, the prince paraded onto the stage looking like the star he is and  inspiring wild cheers from the studio audience.  Really named John Andrew Quale, he invented the character of Prince Poppycock to win

Digital Music Infographic

Digital music has been growing in it’s share of the overall percentage of music consumption worldwide over the last decade.  Through 2009, the following infographic clearly shows a trend that still persists in digital music and its popularity, and where people are getting most of their digital music from (and why.) What’s truly telling is that when iTunes introduced variable pricing, the average number of monthly transactions increased from about 2.4 to 3.4 purchases.  If the price is right, people will pay for digital music.

Music is Great

For thousands of years, human beings have loved music.  It has been a part of human culture since the dawn of time, sometimes even influencing the course of history with its sweet sounds, helping to preserve the lore and traditions of ancient peoples before writing was commonly practiced, and commemorating the major events of centuries for all the world to appreciate later.  Almost no other force of entertainment has had the same impact on humanity as music has had.  Some of the ancient, tribal peoples of the planet used music as a primary form of communication rather than speech as we now know it.
